NAICS: 541712 - Research and Development in the Physical, Engineering, and Life Sciences (except Biotechnology)

RFP: Q3 FY16

Requirements:

This effort is focused on the longer term need of a conformal phased array weapon system. As such, the technical objectives and goals are as follows:
Perform research and development on less mature enabling technologies required for an aircraft conformal phased array laser weapon system. This includes development of advanced components and algorithms required for the conformal phased array (that are not at sufficient readiness to integrate into a fully functional system demonstration) and activities demonstrating their utility and scalability for a future phased array weapon system.
Relevant technologies include:
New concepts and developmental work on high resolution active array imaging and target based phase sensing.
Enabling technologies, modeling, simulation and analysis of new and novel array based beam control methods.
Experiments to validate and reduce risk for fully functional phased array concepts.
Potential dual uses of the High Energy Laser (HEL) and receiver apertures for Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance (ISR), target designation or other applications.
Additionally, there are numerous lower maturity components required to achieve the fully conformal phased array system. This effort will also seek to advance the readiness of these items so that they can be inserted into a future system.  Items under consideration for this focus area are as follows:
Novel beam steering technologies
Conformal or nearly conformal window
Fiber laser sources
Fiber interface technologies
Ultimately of interest under this effort are integrated and comprehensive laboratory and field experiments demonstrating technologies relevant to a phased array laser weapon functioning together at relevant power levels and ranges
